Royal Imbiss - Neukölln

The Royal Imbiss is a small roasted chicken / Döner kebab store in the beginning of Sanderstr in Neukölln. The Döner is ok but don'z expect anything too fancy here. It seems too be popular with many foreign students though.

The serve too kinds of Döner here: The classic cheap style minced meat version or the chicken-vegetable ones which seem to be so popular since Mustafas Gemüse Kebap.
I went for the Chicken Gemüse Döner.

The salat is precutted, the sauce is convenience crap. But they give you a littlebit of cheese on top which is nice. The taste is allright, but still the Döner fails to give me a culinary experience.

Hasir - Kreuzberg

Ok, some history: Hasir is said to be the place where the Döner Kebab was invented in the 70s. Or it was more like the modern version of it... served in a bread. Before that it was only served on plates as far as the ledgend goes...

Nowdays the Hasir empire consists of 6 more upperclass turkish barbecue houses some with an additional Döner window (like this one here in Kreuzberg). But the Döner is not what it should be just by looking at the history and the place itself (the spit is HUGE). The restaurant look nice and fancy but the Döner is simply shit.

The meat is just minced meat version of the original Yaprak Döner. The salat is alright - fresh. But the taste itself is just too simple, too random for a Dönerplace with a history like that. Plus it seems to be way overpriced for what it really is.

Yorck Imbiss - Kreuzberg

Yorck Imbiss is a kebab store in Kreuzberg around the corner from Mustafas Gemüse Kebap. So it is a good alternative if you are not willing to wait in line for 30 minutes. They focus on the same kind of Chicken Döner with vegetables ("Gemüsedöner") and it is ok.

The Meat is nicely spiced with some oregano and a special sauce (probably some kind of soy sauce) and miced with deep fried vegetables. But for my taste the salat isn't fresh enough and the the sauce seems to convenient. The onions pieces are far too big. The bread is nice, but nothing special here either.

Mustafas Gemüse Kebap - Kreuzberg

This Place is a Berlin legend. Somehow it managed to be THE döner place, especially for tourists. Directly located next to one of the best currywurst places around, Curry 36.

The döner itself is nice for sure. It is a little different than the usual döner. It comes (as the name sugguests) with a deep-fried vegetable mix almost like arabic mezze. And it is NOT a vegetable döner, they also serve a vegetable one, but the regular come with chicken. As a topping they use feta cheese and a splash of lemon. yummy!
